Slip as Interface

This is a space to share my research Slip as Interface.

I call a slip the moment before a form becomes recognizable. When systems bend and processes do not fully render. In French, a slip refers to briefs. That is not what I mean. It is a way of experiencing technology, a different kind of perception. But also a condition for states in transition.

An interface is what makes the interaction between humans and the material world happen. It is the function technology plays. This definition comes from Ursula K. Le Guin in her essay A Rant About “Technology”: Technology is the active human interface with the material world.

A slip as interface is when computational systems do not hold and outcomes remain unfixed. In this moment, the interface opens to a different attunement. Humans redefine their relationship with machines, their environment, and their future.
